Description
Crafted from 9 karat yellow gold, this early 20th century hinged bangle is what is known as a 'bamboo bangle'. The hollow hinged bangle features alternating sections of highly polished gold interspersed with ornately textured/worked gold which gives the piece a naturalistic look. The bangle which is oval in shape hinges in the centre and features a tongue and box clasp with safety chain that provide added security when it is worn. The marks to the inside of the tongue clasp are likely Australian, as many of these bamboo bangles were. The hallmark features a capital 'R' which is possibly for the Australian maker Rodd, however we have been unable to find a comparable example. In very lovely condition for a piece that has seen a century of wear the bangle would be beautiful stacked with other gold arm wear for a layered look.
Marked - '9ct' for gold purity along with unidentified maker's mark, likely for Rodd
