This delightful toddy ladle was made in Scotland during the 19th century by silversmiths James & Walter Marshall. The piece which is hallmarked for manufacture in Edinburgh carries the date letter for 1855, the height of the Victorian period. The handle of the ladle is crafted from a piece of polished twisted horn which is typical for these pieces and creates a point of difference in what would otherwise be a very plain piece of silver. Toddy ladles were used to serve hot alcoholic beverages mainly during the 18th and 19th centuries and are sought after by collectors worldwide. This toddy ladle is in lovely antique condition with the usual slight signs of wear associated with age and use. A beautiful piece of silver for a Scottish antique enthusiast.
