Description

This small silver box was crafted in China and has been inset with a carved jade plaque to the lid. The rectangular box is simply marked 'silver' and is decorated to the exterior with auspicious symbols and cloud motifs which are in relief allowing the direct surface of the box to have a rich oxidised patina. Internally the box retains its gold wash which is in excellent condition. To the top of the lid the piece has been rub-over set with a jade plaque that appears to be carved with peaches and a flower. The box which dates to the first half of the 20th Century would have very likely been made for export during the early part of the Republic period in China. A beautiful object to hold jewellery or even a small collection of buttons or coins.

Marked - 'SILVER'

Measures - 9cm W x 6.5cm D x 5.5cm H
